Better than expected
The old Town square. Very quaint and full of charm. In fact Bratislava in general is a small but very pleasant city.
Worth Seeing, Not worth going to see
Bratislava Park. 'Námestie Slobody'. Split opinions on the park amongst the group. For the record, I didn’t think it was as bad as people made out.
Favourite Bar
Personally I liked the Slovak Pub. Cheap Beer, Food smelt good, lively atmosphere and full of 'oldie world charm'.
That said the lads saw a little more of nightlife after hours than I did!
Most Bizarre
Soviet and Nazi reenactors (at least I think they were) at Bratislava Castle . A mini time warp!
Worth Mentioning
Don’t trust the tourist Info. Boats do run between Vienna and Bratislava in April. Furthermore they run three times a day!
Price of Beer
Supermarkets – 500ml was around 50p
Bars – Ranged from 90p to £2.10
NB
Don’t go shopping on a Saturday. Everything seemed to be closed by 2.00pm!

Haz, Rich and Tony did their best to miss the flight, but just about managed to jump the queue and make the final call. The words ‘time Keeping' and ‘Haz' were mentioned. With disaster adverted, we settled onboard the SkyEurope flight to Bratislava with the musical accompaniment of Mr Scuffs 'Keep on Movin'. A rather topical tune, not least in setting the tone, helping to conjure up images of darkened jazz clubs, Goulash and funky foreigners bopping their heads. I think the plane fuel had got to me already.
Having safely picked up our baggage we made our way outside the small but tidy Bratislava airport and looked for the nearest minicab.
Having duly picked an obliging driver we struggled to communicate, but things seemed friendly enough and having consulted a fellow driver about our destination address we got climbed aboard. Unfortunately he dropped us off at the Apartments owners address and not the apartment! Not the best start. Thankfully we were ahead of schedule and after a 20 min walk, we found our apartment and its owner!. |
