About Prague, Czech Republic
Charles Bridge:
About:
One of the most iconic landmarks of Prague is the Karluv (Charles) Bridge. Built over 500 years ago spanning some 550 meters across the river Vltava it connects the Old Town with the Lesser Town. Two Towers stand guard either end and provide a great vantage point for taking photos. These days the bridge is swamped with tourists strolling across the river with street artists and entertainers in equal measure. However at night the bridge is quiet and dimly lit much like medieval times. The most famous feature of the bridge are the alley of 30 mostly baroque statues and statuaries situated on the balustrades. Depicting Patriots saints and former royalty of the Czech Republic the statues are over 400 years old. That is if they hadn’t been replaced in the 1960s! Most are just now replicas as to prevent damage to the originals.
