A 06.30 alarm call in order to get the local SITA bus to Pompeii. Unfortunately, the bus got stuck in an Italian traffic jam, so I had to walk to a local train (circumvesuviana ) station near Sorrento to finish the journey. Pompeii was indeed like stepping back in time. As soon as you’re away from the tour groups, up a quiet backstreet its easy to picture what life must have been like. Despite spending over 5 hours on my feet exploring the lost city, it still wasn’t enough time to take it all in. With time as well as the heat conspiring against me, I decided against climbing Vesuvius itself on this occasion!
